Bihar has become the first state in the country where every polling station will now cater to fewer than 1,200 voters. Announcing this yesterday, the Election Commission said the move is aimed at reducing long queues and making voting more convenient. To achieve this, 12,817 new polling stations have been added across the state. Earlier, there was a ceiling of 1,500 electors per station, which has been revised to 1,200, under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR of the electoral rolls. With this addition, the total
number of polling stations in Bihar has now gone up to 90,712, from the earlier 77,895.
The Election Commission said, under the SIR exercise currently underway in the state, over 7 crore 16 lakh enumeration forms have been collected so far.
It also informed that from the 1st of next month, any member of the public can file objections regarding any additions, deletions, or corrections in the Draft Electoral Rolls.
