The biennial election to the four seats of Karnataka Legislative Council will be held today. The voting will be held from 8.00 am to 5.00pm in North West and South Graduates Constituencies and North West and West Teachers constituencies. The ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress have fielded one candidate in each of the four constituencies and JD(S) has fielded its candidates in three constituencies excluding North West Graduates constituency. 

There are 49 candidates in fray and there are 2,84,922 registered voters in 607 polling stations in four constituencies.

The counting of votes will be held on June 15.

Basavaraj Horatti who left JD(S) and joined BJP recently is contesting for the record eighth successive term from West Teachers’ constituency. He is pitted against Basavaraj Gurikar from Congress and Shrishali Ganadinni of JD(S). 

In North West Teachers’ Constituency the fight is between Arun Shahpur of BJP who is seeking re-election against Prakash Hukkeri of Congress and Chandrashekhar Esappa Lone of JD(S). While in South Graduates Constituency M V Ravishankar of BJP is facing Madhu G Madegowda of Congress and H K Ramu of JD(S). In North West Graduates seat Nirani Hanamant Rudrappa of BJP is pitted against Sunil Annappa Sank of Congress.
