A 52-year-old construction worker from West Bengal died after allegedly suffering a sudden cardiac arrest at the Chennai airport on Friday while preparing to board a flight to his hometown.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Sheikh, who had been staying in Anna Nagar, Chennai, and working as a construction labourer. According to airport police, Sheikh had reportedly been experiencing health issues and decided to return to his native place for treatment.
He arrived at the Chennai domestic
terminal to board an IndiGo flight to Kolkata scheduled to depart around noon. While walking towards the IndiGo check-in counter at Terminal 1 at around 11.50 am, he suddenly collapsed. The airport staff immediately alerted the medical team.
Doctors who examined him declared him dead, stating that he had apparently suffered a cardiac arrest before medical assistance could be administered. Following the incident, the Chennai airport police sent the body to the Tambaram Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
