The famous Beating the Retreat ceremonies at Attari-Wagah Joint Checkpost in Amritsar, Hussainiwala in Ferozepur and Sadqi in Fazilka will resume tomorrow evening, but in a scaled-down version and will be opened for the general public. Border Security Force (BSF) sources, however, said that the gates between both nations will remain shut and there will not be any ceremonial handshake even between the Indian Guard Commander and his counterpart from Pakistan Rangers after the

lowering of flags at the time of sunset, as was the norm.

The calibrated decision to scale down the ceremonial display during the Retreat Ceremonies at these border posts was taken on April 24th because of the dastardly terrorist attack on innocent tourists by Pakistan-based terrorists in Kashmir’s Pehalgam on April 22nd and India’s response to it in the form of ‘Operation Sindoor’.
