State advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas informed the Andhra Pradesh High Court that the State government had decided to complete elections to local bodies by the end of October.

The Advocate General further told the court that the State Election Commission (SEC) had asked the government to prepare and finalise the electoral rolls, while the commission was holding meetings with District Collectors regarding the conduct of the elections.

He also submitted that amendments to the relevant Acts concerning the local body polls were being taken up.

The AG further submitted that

the Rajiv Ranjan Mishra Commission had submitted its report to the State government on finalising reservations for the BC quota in the local body elections.

A Government Order would be issued accordingly, he said, seeking time to submit complete details before the court.

A two-judge Bench comprising Chief Justice Lisa Gill and Justice Challa Gunaranjan heard the matter on Wednesday.

The Bench observed that the State government would take all relevant issues into consideration before finalising the reservations and directed it to submit the details within two weeks.
