Vijayawada:The state civil supplies corporation has purchased 19,84,098 metric tonnes of grain (paddy) worth ` 4575.32 crore from 2,01,934 farmers in the Kharif and Rabi 2024-25 seasons. This was stated here on Thursday by civil supplies minister Nadendla Manohar. He said, "The state government directly deposited cash into the accounts of farmers within 24 to 48 hours of purchasing the paddy. On July 10, a sum of `659.39 crore was deposited in the accounts of 30,403 farmers, towards payment of paddy purchase arrears.”
Manohar claimed that this was for the first time in the country that a total of Rs 4575.32 crore was deposited in the accounts of 2,01,934 farmers for 2024-2025. “Full payments have been done.” He said that in Kharif season 2024-25, as
high as 35.94 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured from 5,65,662 farmers. This was worth `8282.27 crore. A total of `8282.27 crore was paid to 5,65,662 farmers within 24 – 48 hours.”
The government had collected 902 metric tonnes of ragulu (finger millet) worth Rs 3.87 crore from 525 farmers. So far, a total of Rs 3.26 crore has been paid to 502 farmers, he said. The minister claimed that the total grain arrears of Rs 1674.47 crore unpaid by the previous government were fully paid to 84,724 farmers by the present government. Manohar objected to the “trampling” of mangoes in Chittoor district by the YSR Congress, alleging poor prices. He challenged YSRC leaders to join a discussion on the price issue.
