Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) Chairman Vetukuri A.V.S. Suryanarayana Raju has appealed to the public to immediately dial Child Helpline 1098 to report child labour, child marriages, abuse, exploitation, or any violation of children's rights, asserting that the Commission will act swiftly on every complaint.
Addressing the media in Nellore on Wednesday, the chairman said the commission has prepared a comprehensive report on issues such as child labour, child marriages, social media addiction, and the use of children in criminal activities.
The report will be
submitted to the state government with recommendations for a state-wide action plan. He announced special drives against child labour and child marriages, besides awareness campaigns on the harmful impact of social media on children.
He said the commission, in coordination with Childline-1098, police, railway police, women and child welfare department, and other agencies, will intensify rescue operations to identify child labourers, trace missing children and provide counselling and rehabilitation. He also cited the recent rescue of 17 children at Vijayawada railway station, who were safely shifted to child care institutions.
