In a significant breakthrough in the fight against Left-Wing Extremism, a total of 258 Naxalites have surrendered over the last two days in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the development on X, calling it a major step toward ending Naxal violence in the country.
According to Shah, 170 Naxalites laid down their arms in Chhattisgarh on Thursday, while
27 surrendered a day earlier. In Maharashtra, 61 Naxalites gave up arms and returned to the mainstream on Wednesday.
Praising the move, Shah said that the decision of these extremists to give up violence and repose faith in the Indian Constitution reflects the success of the government’s consistent efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Naxalism is now breathing its last,” he stated.
