Amazon Web Services outage brings half the internet down

Amazon Web Services is facing a major outage on Monday that has affected online services globally, including AI platforms, e-commerce platforms, popular websites and online games.

Access to Amazon’s virtual assistant technology Alexa, the social media app Snapchat, online game Fortnite, the AI platform ChatGPT, Epic Games Store, and Epic Online Services was



disrupted.

Amazon Web Services, Inc. is a subsidiary of Amazon that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered, pay-as-you-go basis.

Amazon reported that it is “investigating increased error rates and latencies for multiple AWS services in the US-EAST-1 Region” and that multiple services are “impacted” by operational issues.
