Amarinder Singh Raja Warring quits as Punjab Congress chief ahead of assembly elections

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has resigned as the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president, with the party likely to announce his successor within the next 24 to 48 hours, sources said.

Former minister Vijay Inder Singla is understood to be the frontrunner for the post, while Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh, former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa are also being considered, according to sources.

Congress sources said the party leadership has finalised Singla's name and an official announcement could be made on



October 2.

Warring is expected to travel to Delhi on Thursday and meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi within the next day or two, sources said.

The change comes months ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections and follows a reported feud between Warring and Channi over the party's leadership in the state.

Warring took over as Punjab Congress chief in 2022 and has completed around four-and-a-half years in the post. Congress sources said Warring has been communicated that his tenure as PCC chief is over and that he will hand over the position to his successor.
