AIADMK Opposes TVK Delimitation Resolution Tamil Nadu

AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday said his party opposed the resolution brought by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the Assembly on delimitation, alleging that it had been moved for political reasons. 

Palaniswami, however, said the AIADMK supported the portion of the resolution seeking 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures.

AIADMK’s stand on delimitation was clear and that Tamil Nadu, as a State that had successfully controlled its population growth, should not suffer a reduction in its representation in Parliament. “If Tamil Nadu’s 7.18 per cent share is maintained, the state could gain around 20 additional Lok Sabha seats, taking its total to 59,” he said. The AIADMK’s position, he added, was that Tamil Nadu’s existing representation should not be reduced and should instead be increased by 50 per cent.
