Meerut: In a shocking incident reported from Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, a man attempted self-immolation after traffic police challaned him with a whopping Rs 16,000 fine.  The man has been identified as Rohit.

The city traffic police have been on a drive to enforce strict traffic rules and address other traffic-related violations. The man, a resident of Lal Park on Gangaangar-Mawana Road, was challaned on Tuesday for noise pollution from his bullet motorcycle.

The traffic police inspector fined the man when he was going to buy medicines for his mother. He was stopped near Saket Crossing where cops imposed a fine for noise pollution emanating from his vehicle. This led to the man creating a ruckus on the spot.

The next day, the man

along with his family reached SP Traffic JK Srivastava's office to complain about the issue but to no avail. Rohit told SP that the traffic inspector Anil Kumar Mishra had also threatened him with an 'encounter'.

Finding no relief from SP office, Rohit along with his parents reached Commissioner Crossing on Wednesday. Rohit then poured a bottle of kerosene on him. The policemen at the spot immediately intervened and snatched bottled from him and took all three of them into custody.

Later, cops challaned all three-Rohit and his parents- for creating a ruckus. "We have launched a drive for creating noise pollution. We have arrested all three of them for attempting self-immolation. A case is being filed against them and further action is underway," said Vineet Bhatnagar, SP City.
