New Delhi: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri has informed that 8.8 crore LPG connections has been released till 30th November, 2021 under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana(PMUY) including Ujjwala 2.0 across the country. In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister said that  PMUY was launched in May 2016 to release 8 crore deposit free LPG connection in the name of adult woman member of poor households across the country. 

He said,  the target of the scheme was achieved in September 2019 and further, Ujjwala 2.0 was launched in



August this year to release one crore deposit free LPG connections in addition to 8 crore LPG connections released under PMUY.  Mr Hardeep Puri said that the Government has taken several steps to expedite the scheme which include providing of free of cost 1st LPG refill and stove, option to apply online, social media campaign and public events for distribution of connections. 

He added that release of LPG connections is a continuous process and LPG distributors are under instructions to immediately register any request for new LPG connections.
