Four people were arrested in Jharkhand's Simdega district after 83 kg of ganja was seized from an ambulance, police said on Thursday.
The contraband was allegedly being smuggled from Odisha and was to be delivered in Ranchi, they said. Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Dharmadev Paswan said police received information that ganja was being transported in an ambulance through Simdega.
Acting on the tip-off, a
vehicle-checking drive was launched in the Kolebira police station area on Wednesday. An ambulance allegedly tried to flee after spotting the police but was intercepted, Paswan said.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 82.98 kg of ganja packed in 83 packets and kept in three sacks, besides Rs 27,000 in cash, he said. The arrested persons were identified as Ravi Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Bharat Bhusan and Mohit Pandey, the officer said.
