In Odisha, five Maoists, including three women, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Koraput district on Wednesday.

The encounter took place in a forest under Padua Police Station limit when the personnel of Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) were conducting a combing operation in the area.

Police said, Maoists fired at the SOG and DVF



men after noticing them and the security personnel retaliated the fire killing five Maoists. The security forces had started the combing operation following a tip of that around 15 Maoists are hiding in the forest.  Five guns were recovered from the encounter site.

Two Naxals were also killed in an encounter in Dantewada district of neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
