4 CISF personnel killed after colleague opens fire at camp in J&K, accused arrested

Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, including an Assistant Commandant-rank officer, were killed after one of their colleagues opened fire at them at a camp at the SEWA-2 Hydroelectric Project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Tuesday evening.

The accused, CISF Head Constable Awdhesh Singh, has been arrested and is being questioned by the cops and other agencies over the incident.

According to information received, Singh allegedly opened fire with his service weapon at fellow CISF personnel deployed at the project following an altercation.

The incident took



place during a duty change, when an argument broke out among the CISF personnel, according to the inputs. The situation escalated into firing, leaving four personnel seriously injured. All four later succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, Constable Sanjeev Kumar, and Constable Mohd. Rafiq. The incident is being treated as a case of fratricide, or firing among personnel of the same force.

A team from the Kathua district police has reached the spot and has been entrusted with the investigation into the incident.
