A 32-year-old woman working as an outsourced staff in a government department was allegedly raped and assaulted by an unidentified person at Macherla here, a police official said on Saturday.
Palnadu SP B Krishna Rao said the woman was staying alone at her house.
The unidentified person knocked at the door at 4 pm on April 2 under the pretext of asking for a glass of drinking water. He later forcefully barged into the house and raped her.
According to police, the
woman was living alone in Macherla after separated from her husband, while her daughter stayed with her grandparents.
The SP said a rape case has been registered and investigations are on. Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed police to immediately arrest the culprit who raped the woman working as a subordinate in the Panchayat Raj Department, an official release said.
Officials informed the CM that the woman was shifted to Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH) for medical tests.
