A fast track court in Chennai has sentenced 19 former Law students to three years of imprisonment in connection with the violent clashes between two groups at the Dr Ambedkar Law College premises in 2008. Delivering the verdict yesterday, the court convicted 19 former students under section 148 that deals with rioting, armed with a deadly weapon. 
It also slapped a fine of 10,000



rupees on the two of the convicts and 15,000 rupees on others. All the convicts were released on bail. The court also acquitted 22 other students. The Frast Track Court was constituted in September 2014 following the direction of the Supreme Court. The case relates to violent incidents on 12th November 2008 between two groups of students at the college which had overtones of a caste clash.
