In an effort to improve regional biodiversity and environment restoration in tune with the ‘Vanathukkul Tiruppur’ (Tiruppur inside the woods) project that is being carried out by Vetry NGO, the organisation, in collaboration with the Kangayam Thuligal Trust (KTT), held a massive tree planting event, planting 15,000 saplings in a 100-acre space around the Orathupalayam dam basin in Tiruppur limits to make the Ganesh Chathurthi weekend a memorable one and to be emulative for

eco-restoration drive.

The event marked a critical milestone in reclaiming the dam’s eco-space with a fenced facility and drip irrigation to raise the saplings.

This reclamation project directly addresses the environmental degradation at the Orathupalayam dam limits, where the shutters have remained open for over 15 years, causing the entire catchment reservoir to become heavily infested with the invasive species Prosopis juliflora.
