108 Buddhist pilgrims from South Korea to walk for 1167 km on 43-days pilgrimage

New Delhi: One hundred eight pilgrims of South Korea will visit Buddhist sites in India and Nepal from 9th February to 23rd March. The pilgrims will walk for 43 days and visit Buddhist sites in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as well as parts of Nepal. During their journey, they will cover a distance of one thousand 167 kilometres.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Secretary Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Apurva Chandra said that the purpose of this exercise is to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic ties between South Korea and India. Mr Chandra said, the exercise also aims to increase the friendship and collaboration between the two countries and to pray for peace in both nations.

Speaking on the occasion,



South Korean Ambassador Chang Jae-bok said, during the Pilgrimage, Buddhist monks will offer prayers for a peaceful and prosperous world. He said, Buddhist teachings have much in common with the motto of India's G20 presidency of One Family, One Earth and One Future. The Ambassador said, India is becoming a global power these days and Korea wants to be a good partner in the progress.

On the occasion, Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi said, India and Korea have a long association through cultural ties and it will be further strengthened with the visit of Buddhist Pilgrims. He said, both Prasar Bharti and Korean Broadcaster will organise various programmes to reach out to their audience through content sharing.
