More than 100 marriages were solemnised at the famous Kandaswamy Murugan Temple in Tiruporur in Chengalpet district on Sunday, coinciding with the first auspicious waxing-moon day of the Tamil month of Avani, leaving the temple premises and surrounding roads heavily congested.
As many as 72 marriages had been booked in advance at the temple, while another 30 couples arrived without prior booking and exchanged garlands at the temple sanctum, taking the total number of marriages conducted at the temple
on the day to 102.
The Tiruporur Kandaswamy Temple, an ancient and prominent Murugan shrine, has been witnessing a steady increase in the number of couples choosing to get married on its premises.
The marriages were conducted at various locations within the temple complex, including the 16-pillared hall, inner prakaram, Utsavar Mandapam and circular mandapam. Several other newly married couples also visited the temple for darshan after completing their weddings elsewhere.
