Hyderabad: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), which had its crucial meeting here on Wednesday, allocated 15.5 tmc of water to Telangana and 18.5 tmc to Andhra Pradesh for rest of the water year 2016-17. This includes provision for meeting drinking water needs of both the States till July next.

Telangana which received only 115 tmc of water, against 245 tmc by Andhra Pradesh till February 3, strongly opposed unilateral decisions favouring the lower riparian

State. However, it conceded AP’s request for immediate release of five tmc to meet its immediate needs.

Some 6,000 cusecs of water would be released with immediate effect into the Nagarjuna Sagar Right Canal. The Board Chairman, H K Haldar, told mediapersons that the meeting focused its attention on three major issues — installation of the telemetry systems, allocation of water for rest of rabi season and modalities for sharing water between the two States.
