A student was found dead in the hostel of Delhi's prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tuesday evening.  It is not yet known how he had died.

JR Philemon, a research student from Manipur, was found dead in his room in the University hostel. Police said he had not been seen for the last three days.

His body was found when stench started coming from the room and the students called in the security, said a police officer.


JNU has been witnessing huge protests since October 15



when another student, Najeeb Ahmed, had gone missing following a brawl in his hostel.

Last week, the students had kept the Vice Chancellor and other senior university officials confined in the administrative block for a whole night, alleging that they were falling short in their efforts to locate him. The day after, Union home minister Rajnath Singh asked the police to form a special team to trace the student.

So far, the police have announced a reward of Rs. 1 lakh on information on the student's whereabouts, but to no avail
