The US has invited India to join the Board of Peace on Gaza announced by President Donald Trump as part of the second phase of his plan aimed at ending the war in the region, news agency ANI reported. The move underlines India's position and role as a key global player amid the prevalent geopolitical equation in the face of ongoing conflicts keeping the world on its toes.
Trump on Thursday announced the formation of the Gaza Board of Peace, describing it as a key phase-two step in a US-backed plan aimed at ending the Israel-Hamas war.
Apart from India, at least four additional countries on Sunday said the US has
invited them to join the board, according to an Associated Press report.
According to a US official familiar with the yet-unpublished charter, permanent membership on the Trump-led board can be secured through a USD 1 billion contribution, while three-year appointments do not require financial commitments.
The official said funds raised through the initiative would be directed toward rebuilding Gaza.
Jordan, Greece, Cyprus and Pakistan confirmed receiving invitations on Sunday.
Earlier, Canada, Turkey, Egypt, Paraguay, Argentina and Albania had also said they were invited.
