The United States has ordered an immediate and indefinite halt to all immigration processing for Afghan nationals, citing the need for a comprehensive review of security and vetting procedures.
The suspension covers visa applications, asylum claims and all other immigration pathways for Afghans until the
assessment is completed.
The decision follows a shooting near the White House on Thursday in which two National Guard personnel were injured. The attack was allegedly carried out by an Afghan national.
Authorities said protecting the homeland remains the government's top priority.
