Trump imposes additional 25% tariff on India, total tariff now at 50%

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on India. This new tariff is in response to India's continued purchase of Russian oil. India already faced a 25% tariff, bringing the total to 50%. The order will come into effect 21 days from the date of its



signing. 

This move is described as geopolitical pressure on India to make a geopolitical choice. The implication is a significant trust deficit between America and India. The White House release attributes the tariffs to India's oil purchases enabling Russia's war in Ukraine.
