US President Donald Trump on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India's longest-serving elected prime minister, calling him a "strong, healthy, and wise man."
In a post on Truth Social, Trump praised PM Modi's political milestone and wished him continued success.
"Congratulations to my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on becoming India's longest-serving Prime Minister -- And a Great One he is!" Trump wrote.
"He is a strong, healthy, and wise man, and will have many years of Greatness and Success ahead of him!" he added.
PM Modi achieved the record
on June 10, completing 4,399 consecutive days in office since first taking oath as prime minister on May 26, 2014. With this, he surpassed the tenure of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who served 4,398 days as an elected Prime Minister between May 13, 1952, and May 27, 1964.
The milestone makes him the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India's history.
Hours later, PM Modi thanked the US President for his congratulatory message and said he looked forward to strengthening ties between the two countries. Responding to Trump's post on X, he wrote: "Thank you, President Trump, for your warm wishes."
