An Indian man, who suffered a permanent disability in a traffic accident, has been awarded a compensation of over Dh500,000 by a Dubai court.

Harchand Singh, 59, who hails from Punjab in India, was run over by a car on March 21, 2017, on an Abu Dhabi road. He was rushed to Al Rahba Hospital.

The Abu Dhabi traffic court found the Pakistani driver guilty of reckless driving that left Singh critically injured.

The victim's relatives approached legal representative Salam Pappinisheri of Ali Ibrahim advocates and legal consultants, Sharjah, to represent them in a civil lawsuit for compensation claim against the insurance company.

The legal team filed a lawsuit before the Dubai civil court, seeking compensation for "mental, medical and physical damage". The lawyer argued that the victim suffered injuries in the right pelvic joint, foot, leg and right knee; and a

fracture in the right edge of the pelvis, which caused him permanent disability.

The insurance company denied any liability and asked the court to dismiss the lawsuit, claiming that the victim did not suffer the said injuries.

However, after hearing both sides and looking into the medical report, the court ordered the insurance company to pay Dh400,000 to the victim as motor vehicle accident compensation.

The legal team appealed the primary decision, requesting the appellate court to increase the compensation amount. After hearing both sides, the appeals court awarded Dh549,880 to the victim.
