A father has won a court case against a man who married his daughter without his consent.
The Federal Supreme in Abu Dhabi ruled to annul the marriage of the Lebanese man and the daughter of the Arab defendant based on the UAE law that prohibits a Muslim woman to marry a man without the consent of her father or guardian.
Official court documents stated that the couple went to Lebanon where they tied the knot without the consent of the woman’s family.
The father told the court that the man lured his daughter to go to Beirut, without his knowledge, where he married her without his permission and in the absence of any one from the family.
“I just discovered later that the man took my daughter to Lebanon and married her without my consent,” the father told the court.
“That was unlawful and I

just could accept it because it’s against our religion.”
The father had go to court and requested that the marriage of his daughter be dissolved because it violated Islamic Sharia Law.
The husband said he and the woman were madly in love with each other and that they were officially married in Lebanon.
The Court of First Instance had annulled the couple’s marriage but the husband challenged the ruling and the appeal court overturned the ruling, maintaining that the couple had genuinely married under Lebanese laws.
The father went to the UAE’s top court, which had cancelled the appeal court ruling and maintained the verdict by the first court.
The judge said under UAE’s federal personal status law, a Muslim woman should get the consent of her father, brother or uncle to be able to get married.
