JEDDAH: Riyadh’s Specialized Criminal Court on Wednesday issued a preliminary sentence against two Saudis.
The first defendant received a sentence of seven years in prison after he was found guilty of supporting Daesh and praising Al-Qaeda leaders.
The second defendant received a sentence of eight months in prison for storing photos of the terrorist group on his mobile phone.
In the first case, the court proved the defendant was planning to travel to Syria via Kuwait to join Daesh. He had stolen the passport and identity card of his brother, and submitted both to the Passport Department at Al-Ruqqi border crossing, impersonating his brother.
The court also found him guilty of communicating with a member of the terrorist group to help him to travel;
developing and publishing materials and content to destabilize public order and posting tweets on his Twitter account to support Daesh.
In the second, case the court found the defendant guilty of storing images on his mobile phone of Daesh and a document describing the rulers of the Kingdom with abusive descriptions, which could jeopardize public order.
Separately, a drug dealer has been arrested after trying to sell his illegal goods via Snapchat.
The General Directorate for Narcotics Control (GDNC) in Riyadh said the man who was arrested had a quantity of hashish intended for sale, in addition to bottles of imported liquor.
GDNC said on its Twitter page that the man had been using a social networking site to promote the toxic drugs in his possession.
