Obama appeals to Britain to remain in EU

Fri 22 Apr 2016, 10:58:17

US President Barack Obama has made an appeal to Britain to remain in the European Union. Mr. Obama reached London yesterday and said, the EU membership had magnified Britain's place in the world and made the bloc stronger and more outward looking.

He said, issues such as terrorism, migration and economic slowdowns could be tackled more successfully with the UK in the EU. He invoked the interlinked history of the two countries and the tens of

thousands of Americans lying in European war graves as his reason for speaking as "a friend" on the June 23 referendum.

Earlier, former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown said, the "In" campaign should present British voters with a more passionate and patriotic case for EU membership. In his first major intervention into the debate, Mr. Brown said, he would make a series of speeches in favour of the EU over the next two months.
