Merkel's Christian Democratic Union wins regional elections in the most populous state

In Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union has won the regional elections in the most populous state. The victory for Mrs Merkel's party will now

give her a boost as she seeks a fourth term in general election in September. The Social Democrats conceded defeat in yesterday's vote in North Rhine-Westphalia.
