A 22-year-old man died after being swept over Nevada Fall in Yosemite National Park, California, in an incident witnessed by several visitors over the weekend, authorities said.
According to the National Park Service, emergency personnel received reports at around 11 a.m. on June 20 that a person had gone over the popular waterfall. Rangers and search-and-rescue teams
were immediately dispatched to the area and began recovery operations below the falls.
Officials said the man's body was recovered later the same day. The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office Coroner Division identified the deceased as Josue Baires Alfaro, 22. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances leading to the incident. An investigation is ongoing.
