Kuwait has become the latest city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to resume direct commercial flights with India on Tuesday.

The decision to resume flights was first announced last month but without giving a time frame for implementation, reports Reuters.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has scheduled five flights a day according to the seat capacity agreed upon by the two countries, in accordance with the Cabinet’s recent decision to increase the airport’s capacity, Aviation Control Director Raed Al-Taher said as quoted by kuwaittimes.net.

Al-Taher explained that the first of these flights will arrive at 6 am, stressing the need to adhere to the health requirements for entering Kuwait, which were set by the health authorities in order to avoid any obstacles or reasons for preventing those coming to Kuwait from entering and returning them to their countries of origin, arabtimesonline reported.

Kuwait had

suspended commercial flights from several countries including India and Egypt on the advice of health authorities amid a surge in Covid cases.

The UAE lifted travel curbs last month and announced that commercial international flights will resume with India, along with other countries in Southeast Asia and Egypt.

All passengers have to be fully vaccinated with any one of the Covid-19 vaccines approved by the WHO. Kuwaiti citizens, their first degree relatives and their domestic workers will be allowed to enter the country.

Passengers are mandated to download and register on the Alhosn app, using the UID and phone number. All passengers will have to present a negative PCR test result from within 48 hours before departing to UAE.

Though restrictions on travel from India to UAE are still in place, those Indians who have a valid residency permit and are fully vaccinated, at least 14 days prior to the travel -- are included in the exempted category.
