The Kiswah (Ghilaf-e-Kaaba) of the Holy Kaaba at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, was replaced at dawn on Thursday, June 27, the first day of Muharram, marking the beginning of the Islamic year 1447 AH.

The ritual, overseen by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand



Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, was led under the supervision of Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais.

A team of 154 technicians and craftsmen from the King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswah completed a ten-step process to replace an old cloth with a new one.
