Tensions rose in East Asia on Saturday after North Korea launched a suspected ballistic missile, prompting an emergency alert from the Prime Minister's Office of Japan.

In a post on X, the office warned the public about the developing situation, stating: “Emergency alert: North Korea has launched a

suspected ballistic missile. More updates to follow.”

Following the alert, the administration of Sanae Takaichi, Japan’s first female prime minister who secured a landslide victory in the February 2026 general elections, activated emergency protocols to track the projectile’s trajectory.
