Iran's Revolutionary Guard yesterday said, it had shot down a US spy drone over its territory after it violated Iranian airspace. According to Iranian state television, the American-made Global Hawk surveillance drone was brought down by its Air Force in the southern coastal province of Hormozgan. However, no pictures of the drone were provided.

The incident comes amid tensions between Iran and US. Washington accuses Tehran of being behind a series of operations against oil tankers in Gulf waters. Iran has denied involvement and instead suggested US could be behind the attacks.
