In Canada, nine people, including seven Indo-Canadians, have been arrested by the Peel Regional Police in the largest drug seizure in their history. The police seized 479 kilograms of Cocaine worth nearly 300 crore rupees and two illegally loaded semi-automatic handguns. The smugglers were arrested in Ontario on 35 charges as they were part of a transnational organised criminal network trafficking illicit drugs into the Greater Toronto Area. The arrested
individuals are Hao Tommy Huynh, Arvinder Powar, Gurtej Singh, Karamjit Singh, Manpreet Singh, Sartaj Singh, Shiv Onkar Singh, Philip Tep and Sajgith Yogendrarajah.
This major seizure is part of the successful completion of “Project Pelica,” which traces back to June last year, when the police started probing a cocaine smuggling operation using U.S.-Canada commercial trucking routes.
