India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Harish P, on Thursday raised serious concerns over threats to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, urging the immediate restoration of safe navigation and calling for restraint amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly debate under the Veto Initiative on “The Situation in the Middle East,” Harish P underscored the importance of maritime security for
India’s energy and economic interests.
He said India was deeply concerned that commercial vessels had been targeted during the ongoing conflict.
He also highlighted the human cost, noting that Indian seafarers have lost their lives in recent incidents.
India strongly condemned attacks on civilian maritime activity, stressing that targeting commercial shipping and endangering innocent crew members is unacceptable.
