Gunman Opens Fire Near High School In Turkiye, Four Wounded

A gunman has opened fire near a high school in western Turkiye on Tuesday, officials said. Media reports said at least four people were wounded. 

The attack took place in front of a vocational and technical high school in Turgutlu district, in Manisa province, the provincial governor's office said in a statement. Police and medical teams were sent to the scene, the statement said. 

HaberTurk news channel said at least four people -- mostly students -- were wounded in the attack. It said the assailant fired at students



arriving at the school with a shotgun. The motive of the attack was not immediately known. Turkiye has been shocked by two school shootings this years.

In April, a 14-year-old student opened fire on two classrooms at his school in southeastern Kahramanmaras province, killing nine students and teachers and wounding 13 others. 

The attacker was killed by police. day earlier, 16 people, mostly students, were wounded when a former student opened fire at a high school in nearby Sanliurfa province. The assailant later killed himself.
