Sri Lankan Navy apprehended eight fishermen from Tamil Nadu this morning when they were fishing near Neduntheevu. The fishermen were taken to Trincomalee for questioning. 
There is tension in fishermen hamlets of Nagai Ramanathapuram as Sri Lankan Navy arrested more than 30 fishermen in the past three days. Sri Lankan Navy apprehended eight fishermen from Nagai when they were fishing near Neduntheevu in international



waters. 
The Lankan Navy also detained one fishing boat. Tamil Nadu chief Minister Edapady K Palanisamy urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and secure the release of 53 fishermen languishing in Lankan jail and 123 fishing boats in Lankan custody. He said that the Katchatheevu St Anthony’s Church festival is due to be held within a week and fishermen should be released so that they can celebrate it.
