Dushanbe: China on Friday said that China and India as the two major emerging economies should continue to adhere to the strategic consensus that they do not pose a threat to each other and provide development opportunities for each other. Conveying this to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar at a meeting in Dushanbe on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China has always properly handled the China-India border issue with a positive attitude.

Earlier, the communication between the diplomatic and military departments of the two countries was serious and effective, and the border situation between the two countries has generally developed in the direction of ease, he said. It is hoped that the situation will gradually shift from emergency response to normalized management. We should work together to maintain peace in the border areas and prevent the recurrence of border incidents, he further said. Dr. Jaishankar noted that India and China have made some progress in handling the border situation, while there are still some unresolved issues.

Both

sides had agreed that a prolongation of the existing situation was not in the interest of either side as it was impacting the relationship in a negative manner.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar conveyed to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that India had never subscribed to any clash of civilizations theory. India and China had to deal with each other on merits and establish a relationship based on mutual respect. He said, for this it was necessary that China does not view its relations with India through the lens of a third country. Asian solidarity would depend on the example set by India-China relations.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said that China agrees with the remarks from the Indian side. China and India are both imp Asian countries and their relationship follows its own logic. Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the Indian side is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China within the framework of the BRICS and the SCO to jointly respond to global challenges such as terrorism.
