Chhota Rajan not to be deported today

Jakarta: Gangster Chhota Rajan will not be deported from Indonesia today, as authorities kept the Bali airport shut as a precaution to the volcanic eruption on Mount Rinjani. The airport will remain closed till Thursday.

Rajan was to have been depoted by authorities on Tuesday, but that had been put on hold after the Ngurah Rai International airport was closed to prevent accidents that could involve volcanic ash. Rajan was to be taken to India by a special aircraft on Tuesday night.

Indian agencies were



keen that Rajanj is deported at the earliest and had put in a request to Indonesian authorities on Sunday, sources said. The process of deportation in such cases can take one to two days, a source said.

Rajan, whose real name is Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, is wanted for over 75 heinous crimes. ranging from murder, extortion to smuggling and drug trafficking. Rajan was arrested in Bali on the basis of a Red Corner Notice from Interpol and following a tip off by Australian authorities to Indonesian police.
