Paris: The first coronation in Britain in 70 years takes place in London on May 6, when Charles III is officially crowned king.

The ceremony at Westminster Abbey is the centrepiece of a weekend of celebrations for the new monarch, who is also head of state in 14 countries outside the UK.

Charles III will be officially crowned king next month, in a solemn religious service eight months after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.

The coronation on May 6 is not the first time King Charles III has been crowned.
