The ongoing COVID 19 restrictions in Bangladesh have been extended till June 16.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification to this effect on Sunday. Restrictions have been extended as the COVID 19  pandemic continues to affect large parts of it. The sample positivity rate on Sunday was reported to be over 10 percent.

According to the restrictions, public gathering is prohibited including for social, political or religious purposes.

Public transport, hotels and restaurants are allowed to operate at 50 percent of their capacity.

Factories and emergency services are open. Banking services are also operational on a restricted scale in the country.

All educational institutions have been closed since March last year when the first Corona positive case was reported in Bangladesh.

The local administration is authorised to declare



complete lockdown in their respective areas depending upon the assessment of the Corona situation.

Earlier, strict lockdown was imposed in 6 unions of the Noakhali district from Saturday till June 11. The Southwestern district of Satkhira administration also imposed a week-long lockdown in the district following a sudden increase in the COVID 19 cases which reached the positivity rate of 53 percent.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Bangladesh reported 38 deaths and 1676 fresh COVID 19 cases in the country on Sunday.  The death toll in the country has gone up to 12,839. The sample positivity rate was reported at 10.73 percent while the recovery rate was 92.64 on Sunday.

Bangladesh has imposed countrywide lockdown since April 5 which has been extended in many phases. The latest phase of restrictions was coming to an end on Sunday, June 6.
