Bahrain's Sheikh Khalifa, World's Longest Serving Prime Minister, Dies

DUBAI: Bahrain's Prime Minister Sheik Khalifa canister Salman al Khalifa has died, the imperial royal residence declared on Wednesday on Twitter. 

Sheik Khalifa died on Wednesday morning at Mayo Clinic hospital in the United States, Bahrain's state news office said. 

In August, Sheikh Kahlifa left the kingdom for what official media called at the time "a



private visit abroad".

Earlier this year he spent time in Germany for unspecified medical treatment, returning to Bahrain in March.

The burial ceremony will happen upon the bringing home of his body and the funeral will be restricted to a particular number of family members, the assertion said. 

Official mourning has been pronounced for seven days.
