Kabul: In Afghanistan, at least 25 people were killed and more than 50 wounded when gunmen attacked the country's biggest military hospital after explosions in the capital Kabul yesterday.

Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said, the explosions hit the entrance of Kabul's Sardar Daud Khan Military hospital and were followed with an assault by a group of gunmen, all of whom were killed within minutes.

He said, Taliban Special Forces dropped by helicopter had prevented the attackers from entering the hospital itself, with all killed at the entrance or in the courtyard. No-one has yet claimed responsibility, but the Taliban have blamed the Islamic State affiliate IS-Khorasan for the

attack.

Taliban officials said, among the dead was Mawlawi Hamdullah Mukhlis, Head of the Kabul Military Corps and one of the first senior Taliban Commanders to enter the abandoned Presidential Palace when the city fell.

United Nations' Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), along with countries condemned the attack. In a tweet, UNAMA said, attacks targeting medical personnel and civilians seeking treatment are violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.

In 2017, IS-K mounted a complex attack on the Daoud Khan hospital, killing more than 30 people. The group has carried out a series of attacks on mosques and other targets since the Taliban's seizure of Kabul.
