Six people were killed in a shooting at a youth welfare facility in northern Germany on Monday, prompting a massive police response that ended with the detention of two people, including the suspected gunman.
Police described the incident as a homicide involving multiple victims in the town of Stade, west of Hamburg. While the motive remains unknown, German media reported that investigators believe it is more likely to be linked to a personal dispute than political
or extremist violence.
Initial reports from German media said four women and one man had been killed in the attack.
Police later confirmed that a sixth adult, who had been critically injured in the shooting, died in hospital.
The attack took place at a youth welfare facility in Stade, a town of around 50,000 residents. German media reported that the site includes accommodation for mothers and children.
