Two Indians were killed, and 10 others were injured in an Iranian drone strike in Oman's Sohar city amid the ongoing West Asia conflict. This marked the first Indian fatalities on land since the war broke out nearly two weeks before. Earlier, three Indian sailors were killed in attacks on merchant vessels.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the Indian mission in Oman is in contact with the local authorities and the employer company, and is extending all possible help.
"We lost two Indian nationals today in an attack in Sohar, Oman in the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Several other Indian nationals were also
injured. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. Our Mission in Oman is in touch with the local authorities as well as the employer company and is extending all possible assistance," he tweeted.
At an inter-ministerial media briefing on the crisis in West Asia, Joint Secretary (Gulf) in the Ministry of External Affairs Aseem Mahajan said that a total of 11 people were injured in the attack, and barring one, all others were Indians.
" Out of them, five have been discharged after receiving treatment, and five others are receiving treatment in local hospitals," he added.
