In US, at least 16 people have been injured in a shootout at a subway station in Brooklyn, New York. Authorities said, a gunman wearing a gas mask set off a smoke bomb and opened fire in a subway car. 

Officials are appealing for information about the gunman, who fled the scene and is still at large. Ten of those suffered gunshot wounds, while others suffered from smoke inhalation and shrapnel wounds.

New York Police Department said this incident is not being investigated as an act of terrorism, but authorities have not ruled anything out. New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said there are no life-threatening injuries. She asked for New Yorkers to share any photos or videos of the incident with law enforcement, as the suspect is still at large. 

Sewell described the suspect as Black male with a heavy build, wearing a green



construction-type vest with a hooded gray sweatshirt. The accused was reportedly a Black male, 5 feet 5 inch tall, with a heavy build, she added.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul warned New Yorkers that a suspected gunman who shot multiple people is still at large. President Joe Biden said his administration will not be letting up until the suspect of this shooting is found. The President said his team is in touch with the New York City’s mayor and New York’s police commissioner, adding that the Department of Justice and the FBI are working closely with the NYPD on the ground. Consulate General of India in New York said, they are deeply disturbed by horrific shooting in Brooklyn and are in touch with local authorities. 

In a tweet, Consulate General Randhir Jaiswal said, their prayers and thoughts are with those injured.
